Use this recipe to make Quick & Easy Caramel Sauce (Sugar-Free & Gluten-Free). It’s only 4 ingredients and is true to taste and texture!

By now everyone has seen those Snickers commercials with someone who is super cranky because they haven’t eaten and someone hands them a Snickers bar and they are magically cured of their hangryness. I don’t know about you, but I relate to those commercials on a very deep level.

Caramel is my weakness and when my family went sugar-free I was missing it something awful!  I used to put it on top of my ice cream, in my coffee, I used it to make candy, and cutting all of those things out of my diet along with sugar was almost more than I can take.

This recipe includes a special ingredient that I use, love, and highly recommend! Thanks to the geniuses over at Trim Healthy Mama (THM). They work hard to create healthy products to replace the garbage products in most food these days.

Their sugar replacement, Gentle Sweet is my go-to choice for baking because you get all the sweetness with none of the sugar or funky sugar replacement aftertaste. They even created an option for dog owners without the xylitol in the event your dog gets into the bag or into something you baked with it, it won’t be toxic to them. I use the one with xylitol because I don’t have dogs and the xylitol helps prevent crystallization.

Pro-Tips:

  • You can double or triple this caramel recipe to have on hand when you have a sweet tooth attack.
  • If you refrigerate this sauce it will set up which is great for candy making and putting in your coffee but not so much if you want to dip things in it. If you want it to return to a saucy consistency, I do not recommend putting it in the microwave. The microwave heats it up too fast and causes it to break. Letting it sit out at room temp like butter is a much better way to go.

Quick & Easy Caramel Sauce (Sugar-Free & Gluten-Free)

Yield:

2 cups

Ingredients:

1 cup – Butter
⅓ cup – Gentle Sweet
1 cup – Heavy Cream
1 ½ tsp – Vanilla Extract

Instructions

Step One
Melt the butter on medium heat. Once it’s melted, keep cooking the butter until it becomes a deep amber color. The milk solids begin to burn but you want to stop them a few stages short of black.

Step Two
Add the Gentle Sweet and allow it to dissolve completely.

Step Three
Stir in the heavy cream carefully. When the cold heavy cream hits the hot butter it will bubble up and release a lot of steam. Be careful not to burn yourself. Bring the sauce back up to a simmer and allow it to reduce for about 10 mins or until it’s a bit runnier than traditional caramel sauce.

Just keep in mind that it will thicken as it cools.  add heavy cream to butter in a pot

Step Four
Remove from the heat and add the vanilla. Stir it in until it’s completely combined. Pour the caramel in an airtight container, preferably glass, and store in the fridge if you aren’t using it within a few hours.
