Soft & Gooey Rice Cereal Treats are one of my favorite snacks because they’re easy to make and they stay fresh for up to a week. They are so versatile because they can be customized for holidays and given as gifts or just put in a lunch box for an easy snack.

There are probably more than a million different versions for this type of snack but one thing I’ve never seen that I love to do is brown the butter. Most recipes call for the butter to be melted but not browned. It adds an extra buttery richness to the treats that make them even better!

Yield:

1 9×13 Pan

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick – Butter
  • 7 cups – Rice Cereal
  • 5 cups – Mini Marshmallows

Instructions:

1. Melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted the browning will happen quickly. The top will be covered in white foam, which typically means it has browned. Use a wooden spoon to move the foam aside and check the color. It goes from brown to burnt quickly so don’t walk away and be ready with the marshmallows.

2. As soon as the butter brows it’s time to immediately add the marshmallows. Reduce the heat by half. Stir until completely melted.

3. Remove from the heat and add the rice cereal. Stir until completely combined.
